Delhi 6 (Masakali Matakkali)

A.R Rahman’s music – what can you expect then but the best!

The song itself has a very ethnic touch but i think what really sets it apart is Sonam Kapoor! Her simple and natural look seem almost perfect for the song.

And though i don’t see it, a cousin happened to comment that she feels Sonam Kapoor has a touch of Aishwarya Rai in the song… well what do you expect – she is working with Abhishek Bachchan – kya pata she was chosen for that very reason 😉

A “4.5”  – just for Sonam Kapoor!

Billo Barber (Khit Pit Soniye)

I decided to review the song videos as well 🙂

I have a few reservations about Deepika Padukone (Ms. Plastic Face as i call her) and though the song itself is quite catchy, this song has not left me very impressed with Deepika’s dancing – too stiff and well, Plastic! – maybe its the choreography or just Deepika herself – and i just happen to think its the latter since Shahrukh Khan looks awesome dancing here! 🙂

The song itself  is definitely a big hit but for Deepika it gets a 3.5!

Rock On!!

January 4, 2009 at 10:46 pm (Movie Reviews) (, , , , , , , , , , )

rock-on

Actors: Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Prachi Desai, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny
Released: 29th August 2008

Rock On!! has – lets not say failed to impress me but for me – has not been up to the mark.

Rock On!! a story of 4 friends (Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny) who manage to get together again after years of estrangement to fulfill their dreams with a lot of help and support from Akhtar’s wife, Saakshi(Prachi Desai).

Full points for everyones acting especially Akhtar, Akhtars singing and the music but i feel the movie only worked because of the energy created by the climax. The rest of the movie seemed to drag on with no purpose – it seemed to lack a certain sizzle – but the last song with its direction, energy, the feel of the crowd all managed to pull the movie together.

Another family watch. You certainly cannot compare it to Dil Chahta hia per still thats not a reason to miss this movie – must watch.

Rate: Still, a “3.5” from me.

Desperado!

January 3, 2009 at 10:13 pm (Movie Reviews) (, , , , , )

desperado

Actors: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek
Released: 25th August 1995

Being in a movie watching mood today, we ended up watching Desperado!

After the end of the movie, I still can’t decide how i want to rate this movie. Too bloody, unnecessary killing and no storyline has me in two minds about the movie.

El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) is a guitar player who goes searching for a drug lord who killed the love of his life. He meets Carolina (Salma Hayek), who runs a bookstore which seems to have non-existent customers, on one of his searches. The whole story revolves around Mariachi bent on finding this drug leader.

Thinking back about it – being a modern movie there was western touch to it that was very well portrayed in the movie.

But not being a big fan of Antonio Banderas – there is something off-kilter about him (i think at times he looks like a girl!) – i can’t say much about his acting but Salma Hayek – acting aside, looks amazing as always.

A good watch if you are in a non-thinking mode but at the same time don’t want to watch a mushy movie (our alternative was Grease)!

To rate it, i guess i can give this movie a “3.0“.

Rab ne bana di Jodi

January 3, 2009 at 2:00 am (Movie Reviews) (, , , , , , , , , )

rnbdj2

Actors: Shahrukh Khan, Anushka Sharma
Released: 12th December 2008

Rab ne bana di jodi may be a hit but its not what i would call a superhit!

Surinder (Shahrukh Khan) is an ordinary nerdy looking middle class man who falls in love at first sight with Taani (Anushka Sharma) – a fun loving bubly girl. A sudden twist entwines their lives together and the rest of the story is about the changes that Surinder brings in himself and his life to win his wifes love.

As far as acting skills are concerned – both Anushka Sharma and Shahrukh khan do full justice to their respective roles! In fact – Anushka Sharma – being a newcomer – handles her role with aplomb.

But there was lot desired of the storyline due to which the movie dragged with only a few scenes making an impact – the most notable being Anushka Sharmas motorcycle scene and Shahrukh khans when he finds out that his wife does love him!

Also, the ending was quite unrealistic but then since most of the movie was so – i guess this point must be overlooked. Of the music, the title track was probably the most unappealing! “Dance pe chance” and “Haule Haule” are the ones that stay with you the most.

A must-watch for the acting but don’t expect too much from the story. Also, i wholly recommend this movie as a Family watch – to find a movie with not even an ounce of vulgarity in this time and age – hats off to the movie just for that!

But on the whole, i can give this movie a  “3.5” and nothing more.

Enjoy the Popcorn!
